A Town with History and Space to Breathe
Kep was once a holiday spot for Cambodia’s rich and powerful. In the 1950s and 60s, families came here to relax by the sea. Old villas from that time still stand, their walls covered in vines, their windows open to the breeze. After years of silence, the town has begun to grow again, but not too much. It still feels open and quiet, with clean air and few crowds.
The main road curves along the water. Fishing boats float just offshore. It is easy to walk, easy to think, and easy to feel far from the noise of city life.
What You Can See and Do in Kep
Visit the Crab Market
This is what many people come for. The crab here is fresh from the sea, brought in by hand each morning. You can buy one and have it cooked right away with green Kampot pepper. Restaurants line the water and serve seafood with a view.
Relax at Kep Beach
The beach is small but pleasant. The water is warm and still, which makes it good for children. Families often come here for picnics and swimming in the late afternoon.
Take a Boat to Rabbit Island
A 20-minute ride takes you to a quiet island with palm trees and simple wooden bungalows. There are no roads, just a footpath and beach huts. It is a good place to rest, swim, or spend a night away from everything.
Walk in Kep National Park
There is a 9-kilometer loop trail behind the town that leads through forest and hills. You can walk or ride a bicycle. Along the way, there are small shrines, rest stops, and ocean views.
